Action News has obtained dashcam footage from one driver who barely avoided the deadly multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 99 in Fresno.
The video, uploaded to TikTok by @abdul.mateeen.momini a few days after the crash, shows the foggy conditions between North and Cedar avenues just after 9 a.m. Sunday.
As the car heads south, you can see the fog drifting across the highway but the road ahead is still visible.
Suddenly, a dense patch nearly eliminates any view and in the blink of an eye, the massive pile-up appears in the mist.
The driver makes a split-second move to narrowly avoid the crash.
61-year-old Gustavo Villanueva Vargas of Fresno was killed, and his wife was severely injured.
Several others, including children, were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Reports show two vehicles had initially slowed down, with several others behind them traveling faster.
Investigators say visibility was estimated to be reduced to just 10 to 15 feet at the time of the crash.
