A person was taken into custody after fatally attacking a man in the heart of Beverly Hills, police told NBC4 Investigates exclusively Friday.
The assault happened at around 12:42 p.m. in the heart of Beverly Hills on Wilshire Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard, police said.
The two men were involved in a verbal dispute before one suspected attacker struck the man with a metal object multiple times, according to Beverly Hills police.
Multiple witnesses told NBC4 Investigates and police that the suspect struck the man with an object, then ran him over in a car.
Officers were able to quickly respond to the report and detain the suspect without further incident, the Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspected attacker was identified by police as 54-year-old Christopher Cornelius of San Bernardino. Cornelius was booked on suspicion of murder and had bail set at $2 million. Police said the San Bernardino resident had an extensive criminal record for violent crimes.
It was not immediately clear what the motive was behind the attack.
