BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man dead in southeast Bakersfield, causing mixed emotions among neighbors. The incident occurred around 10:51 p.m. near the intersection of Rosalia Drive and South K St. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in a driveway and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Some neighbors expressed concerns over their safety following the shooting. One anonymous resident shared, “Now we are going to be afraid to go out. For instance, if I want to go for a walk or I want to walk to the store – it won’t be the same.” She also recounted her daughter’s warning during the incident: “She said, ‘Mom, they are shooting next to the garage,’ and I told her not to get up in case they are still shooting, so a bullet doesn’t come into the house.”

Valeri Kingson and her husband, who heard the gunshots, described the police presence they witnessed. “I came out, and I saw a heavy police presence,” Kingson said. Her husband added, “We did hear gunshots and I counted about 8.” Despite the incident, they still feel safe in their neighborhood and are unsure of what transpired.
