A man suspected of robbing a Santee bank this week was behind bars Friday following his arrest at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bruce Clark Furze, 31, allegedly handed a teller a note demanding cash at the Chase Bank on Town Center Parkway shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives identified Furze as the suspected robber through surveillance camera images and prior law enforcement contacts, according to the Sheriff’s Sgt. Justin Crews said.

Furze was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday as he attempted to cross the international line at San Ysidro Port of Entry. He was booked into at San Diego Central Jail, where he was being held on $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Officials did not disclose how much money Furze allegedly stole during the heist.
