SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s basketball team (9-8, 4-2) made a season-high 11 3-pointers in a 76-62 win at San Jose State on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the Runnin’ Rebels’ second straight and fifth in their last seven games.

Howie Fleming Jr. led four UNLV players in double-figure scoring with 21 points and a season-high eight assists. Tyrin Jones added 12 points, while Kimani Hamilton had 11 and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn contributed 10.

The Spartans (6-12, 1-6) were led by Melvin Bell Jr.’s 22 points and eight rebounds.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV shot a season-high 47.8% from 3-point range for the game (11 of 23). 

FIELD GOALS ASSISTED: In the first half UNLV recorded 11 assists on 14 made field goals, finishing the game with 17 assists on 27 makes (63%).

QUOTABLE: “Really proud of our guys. Really great win. Winning is hard. Winning on the road is especially hard. I told our guys for the last 48 hours, to win this game you’ve got to be so defiant to compete for every inch and you can’t give an inch, that’s what it comes down to. We found a way to really have a high level of compete. OTHER NOTES: 

– This was UNLV’s fifth straight win against SJSU and the 15th in the last 17 meetings. It also marked UNLV’s ninth win on the road vs. SJSU in the last 10 meetings.

– UNLV shot 54% from the field (27 of 50) and a season-high 91.7% on free throws (11 of 12). UNLV improved its record to 4-1 this season when shooting 50% or better from the field.

– UNLV held SJSU to just 38.5% shooting in the second half (10 of 26). The Spartans finished the game at 41.3% shooting from the field (19 of 46).

– Fleming Jr. (6 of 11), Jones (5 of 8), Hamilton (4 of 5), and Gibbs-Lawhorn (4 of 7) combined to shoot 19 of 31 from the field (61%).

– Hamilton was 3 of 3 on 3-pointers, Fleming Jr. was 3 of 6, and Gibbs-Lawhorn was 2 of 4. Emmanuel Stephen led the team in rebounds with six, and Gibbs-Lawhorn added four assists without committing a turnover.

– UNLV committed a season-low seven turnovers.

– San Jose State outrebounded UNLV 31-22, including 13-5 on the offensive glass. The Spartans led in second-chance points 9-2.

– UNLV led 40-31 at halftime.

– UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,277 straight games.
