The population of Anaheim, California, is over 50% Latino.
The community has a rich history in the area, and now, some local high school students are trying to do their part to honor it.
Hailey Sotelo is a 15-year-old high school student who has teamed up with some of her peers to launch a podcast titled “The Untold Storytellers” to highlight the contributions of the Mexican community in Anaheim.
The idea came about through Lizzette Barrios Gracian, a teacher in Anaheim who owns the Untold Story Bookstore, which is where the episodes are recorded.
As the increase in immigration enforcement in Southern California continues, Sotelo and her colleagues are shining a light on all the great things the Mexican community contributes not just to Anaheim, but around California.
