The UNLV basketball team shot a season-high 47.8% from 3-point range on Saturday at San Jose State, making 11 3-pointers in a 76-62 victory.
The win improved the Runnin’ Rebels to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play, marking their second consecutive victory and fifth win in their last seven games.
Howie Fleming Jr. paced UNLV with 21 points and a season-high eight assists. Three other Rebels scored in double figures: Tyrin Jones with 12 points, Kimani Hamilton with 11 and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn with 10.
UNLV dominated from beyond the arc, connecting on 11 of 23 attempts, and shot 54% from the field overall (27 of 50). The Rebels also hit 11 of 12 free throws for a season-high 91.7%, improving to 4-1 this season when shooting 50% or better from the field.
The Rebels’ four leading scorers combined to shoot 61% from the field (19 of 31). Hamilton was particularly efficient, going 3 for 3 on 3-pointers and 4 of 5 overall, while Fleming Jr. hit 3 of 6 from deep and finished 6 of 11 from the field.
UNLV’s defense held the Spartans to 38.5% shooting in the second half (10 of 26) and 41.3% for the game (19 of 46). The Rebels also committed a season-low seven turnovers.
UNLV coach Josh Pastner, in a statement, said: “Really proud of our guys. Really great win. Winning is hard. Winning on the road is especially hard. I told our guys for the last 48 hours, to win this game you’ve got to be so defiant to compete for every inch and you can’t give an inch, that’s what it comes down to. We found a way to really have a high level of compete.”
