Bailey Barnhard scored all six of her points in overtime as San Diego State forced five turnovers and outscored host UNLV down the stretch to score a 75-66 victory in Saturday’s match of unbeaten Mountain West teams.

The Aztecs improved to 14-3 and 8-0 in conference play with their 10th straight win. UNLV fell to 12-6 and 7-1. It was the first time in Mountain West history that two 7-0 conference teams met.

“That was fun,” said Aztec head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson. “Once again, we found a way to win. Our defense was solid. We took them out of a lot that they wanted to run. And we did a great job responding every time they made a run.

“I love these opportunities. That was fun. That was a big game for our program. It wasn’t our best game. But we played hard and recovered in overtime.”

The Aztecs went on an 11-0 run in a span of 98 seconds in the third quarter and led 58-48 midway through the fourth quarter. But UNLV closed with a 14-2 run to force overtime, where the Aztecs dominated.

Offensively, the Aztecs were led by guards Naomi Panganiban, Nat Martinez and Nala Williams.

Panganiban led the Aztecs with 20 points, going 7 for 11 from the floor and 4 for 7 on 3-point attempts. She also had four assists despite missing time due to foul trouble. Martinez had 19 points and three steals. Williams had seven assists, five rebounds and four of the Aztecs’ 12 steals. Alyssa Jackson had seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

“Again, our bench was critical for us,” Terry-Hutson said.

The Aztecs shot 10 for 23 from 3-point range and forced UNLV into 24 turnovers.
