The Bakersfield Planning Commission on Jan. 15 approved its consent calendar and adopted staff recommendations for consent public hearing items, with one abstention noted and two members absent during the votes.

Chair Adam Strickland called the meeting to order and the clerk conducted roll call. The meeting record shows public statements were solicited for both non-agenda items and items on the agenda; no members of the public spoke. The commission led the pledge of allegiance before moving on to business.

Commissioners moved to approve the consent calendar (agenda item 4). The motion was seconded and the clerk announced the motion passed; the record indicates Commissioner Neal and Vice Chair Biddle were absent at the time of that vote.

The commission then opened the consent calendar public hearing items (agenda item 5). Staff distributed a memo related to item 5C on the day of the meeting. One commissioner indicated they would abstain from voting on item 5C because of a “source of income” conflict; the meeting record later identifies Commissioner Carter as abstaining from item 5C. A subsequent motion to adopt staff recommendations for the consent public hearing items was made and seconded; the clerk announced that motion passed, again noting Commissioners Neal and Vice Chair Biddle were absent and Commissioner Carter abstained on item 5C.

In staff communications, a staff member wished the commission a happy new year and announced the next scheduled meeting for Feb. 5. With no commissioner comments offered, Chair Strickland adjourned the meeting at 5:37 p.m.
