The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a head-on collision Friday in the foothills as a husband and wife.

Ted Amber, 87, and Sharon Amber, 86, both of Clovis, were in a Kia Soul when a Dodge Durango headed north on Auberry Road crossed the center line and struck them in the southbound lanes of Waterbury Road.

The crash was reported at 11:30 a.m.

The two were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The 21-year-old driver of the Durango was not injured and was cooperating with authorities.

Neither alcohol nor drugs was suspected as factors in the crash, CHP said, but the driver was placed under arrest based on witness statements and physical evidence.

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene.

The Durango driver was identified as Lazaro Hernandez of Clovis. He was booked into the Fresno County jail and charged with two counts of felony gross vehicular manslaughter.

“Although marijuana and the odor of marijuana were detected inside the vehicle, a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation was conducted by CHP, who ruled out impairment,” authorities said.
