The Kook Run is back to run the coast on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8. Considered one of the most beautiful courses in Southern California, the 5K and 10K out-and-back race starts and finishes under the downtown Encinitas sign, taking racers down Coast Highway 101 and past the iconic Cardiff Kook statue.
Runners are encouraged to wear a costume and participate in the world-famous Kook-themed costume contest. Prizes will be available for participants in the categories of individual kook and group costume, judged by a panel composed of race partner Cardiff 101 Mainstreet. A post-race finish line festival at Moonlight Plaza will feature live music, beer garden, breakfast tacos, local vendors, games and activities.

For the fourth year in a row, the event also includes a Junior Kook Run for kids ages 3-12, a race just for them on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Ecke YMCA. Kids can opt for distances of 400 yards up to one mile on a closed course in the YMCA parking lot. Junior Kooks will receive a finisher’s medal and have their own post-race celebration, complete with a concert with Bach to Rock.
