Eligible Residents Encouraged to Register Now
California voters have until 15 days before Election Day to register to participate in any election in the state, meaning the deadline to register for the November 4, 2025 Special Election is Monday, October 20, 2025.
Eligible residents can register online through the Secretary of State’s portal, which is available in multiple languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. A paper registration form is also available at county election offices, DMV locations, public libraries and U.S. post offices. Forms must be postmarked or delivered in person by the deadline.
Voter Eligibility
To register in California, an applicant must:
Be a United States citizen and a resident of California,
Be 18 years of age or older by Election Day,
Not be currently serving a state or federal prison term for a felony conviction,
Not be found mentally incompetent to vote by a court.
California also allows pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds who meet all other eligibility requirements.
