Opening up the new year for the Cardinal men was a road trip to take on the Tritons of UC San Diego in La Jolla, with Stanford earning the road win in a score of 177-81.

Stanford opened up the action with a win in the 200 medley relay; Ethan Harrington (21.80), Zhier Fan (24.12), Jonathan Tan (20.67), and Rafael Gu (19.12) led the relay from beginning to end to give Stanford an early advantage, winning in 1:25.71.

Cardinal senior Henry Morrissey was untouchable in the 1000 free, touching nearly 15 seconds ahead of the field in 9:03.91. Notching his fastest time of the season thus far.

Similar to Morrissey in the 1000, freshman Omer Wiener dominated the 200 free, touching in 1:34.95. Stanford sophomore Abram Mueller completed the 1-2 finish with his time of 1:38.17. In addition to his 200 free win, Wiener also added the 200 back to his victory slate, clocking 1:43.55

Stanford’s backstroke duo of Finn Harland and Josh Zuchowski led the way for the Cardinal in the 100 back, finishing 1-2 with Harland (47.47) finishing just under half a second faster than Zuchowski (47.91).

Stanford sophomore Daniel Li, who had the fastest 50 breast split of anybody in the 200 medley relay in 23.93. Earned the individual win in the 100 breast, cruising to a win in 52.74, two and a half seconds faster than UC San Diego’s Adrian Bellido in 55.26.

Henry McFadden made easy work of the 200 butterfly, leading the 1-2-3 sweep for Stanford in 1:43.82. Hayden Kwan swam to a lifetime best 1:47.49 for 2nd, and Liam Custer was 3rd in 1:47.63. McFadden later picked up the 100 fly event win in 47.27, Zuchowski was 2nd in 48.00, a season best for him.

The Cardinal went back-to-back top three sweeps with Stanford finishing 1-2-3 in the 50 free; leading the way was Gu in 19.46, Tan was just behind in 19.72, and Andres Dupont Cabrera rounded out the top three in 20.03.

Tan nabbed the 100 free win over Hunter Cehelnik (43.88) by just under four tenths in 43.50.

Sophomore Go Nagaoka led a small field of three in the 200 breaststroke, winning by over 11 seconds in 1:54.25.

Andres Dupont, the Stanford senior, completed the distance sweep for the Cardinal, touching in a lifetime best 4:26.34. UC San Diego’s Zach Tower (4:30.43) and Charlie Franz (4:30.49) finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Cardinal Sophomore Ray Liu led the 1-2 finish with a lifetime-best 400 IM performance of 3:48.08. Fellow freshman Connor Jones finished runner-up in 3:53.58.

Stanford closed out the meet on a high note, with Harrington (19.93), Gu (18.86), Dupont Cabrera (19.82), and Wiener (20.37) completing the full event sweep on the day with a winning 200 free relay win in 1:18.98.
