LOS ANGELES, CA — Two men shot each other with the same gun in an incident that left one of the men dead during what police described as as drug deal gone awry in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday.

The incident began at around 4 p.m. in an alley behind the 20400 block of Sherman Way, between Oso and Mason avenues, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

A 31-year-old man was in an alley when a 36-year-old man approached, attempted to rob him, then fired shots at him, according to a desk officer at the LAPD’s Operations Center. The two men got into a fight and the would-be victim wrestled the gun away from the assailant and fired a shot that struck him, the officer said.

Paramedics took the suspect to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

ABC 7 reported that the men were meeting for a drug deal: The now-dead 31-year-old was buying drugs from the older man.

The 36-year-old man was subsequently arrested, though police did not reveal what charges he may be facing.
