BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man has died after crashing into another driver on Highway 46, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP says Bakersfield officers were called out to reports of a crash on Highway 46, west of Smith Avenue, at 1:16 p.m. on January 17.

Officers found that a 20-year-old man was driving eastbound on Highway 46 when he crossed into westbound lanes and crashed into another driver.

The other driver, a 60-year-old man, attempted to avoid the crash but was hit.

The 20-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 60-year-old man and his passenger were taken to a hospital in Bakersfield.

CHP say Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
