Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it… As the ultimate pop-culture anthem by Madonna, Vogue, reminds us, the ’90s were iconic because fashion truly ruled the world. Runways were larger than life, legendary fashion houses experienced a revival, emerging designers made their mark, and supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista reigned supreme
For both seasoned fashionistas who experienced the era firsthand or simply for those who just love its aesthetic of audacity, bold style statements, and glamour, the ASU FIDM Museum invites visitors to relive this influential decade with Obsessed: Fashion and Nostalgia in the ’90s.
Opening this February, the exhibition explores the moment when analog culture met the dawn of the internet, showcasing the work of designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Anna Sui, Franco Moschino, Gianni Versace, and John Galliano. Obsessed highlights how ’90s fashion continues to inspire today’s creatives, offering a stylish counterpoint to our digital age.
Beyond the runway, the exhibition dives into the cultural context that shaped the decade’s style, from music videos and magazine spreads to street fashion and the rise of global brand consciousness. Visitors can explore how these iconic looks reflected social trends, personal expression, and the ever-evolving dialogue between individuality and mass culture.
