A soft opening two years in the making finally happened in a former Boston Market location in Fresno with the debut of Jingle Bao over the weekend.
The restaurant that specializes in Chinese soup dumplings opened Saturday at 110 E. Bullard Ave. The former Boston Market location closed abruptly in 2023, along with a store at First and Nees avenues that is now a Dutch Bros.
The restaurant has been under construction for two years, with a final permit from Fresno County issued to owner Jia Zheng on Dec. 17, 2025.
The Fresno Bee reported that the ownership group behind Jingle Bao also includes the owner of Bag o’ Crab restaurant in Northwest Fresno. The dumplings are modeled after the handmade, steamed creations of global chain Din Tai Fung, The Bee reported.
Chun Lau, the manager who opened the restaurant, shared about the soft opening on the Facebook group “Fresno Food & Catering,” inviting friends to “come by, enjoy some baos, and share your thoughts with us.”
Jingle Bao already has six Yelp reviews with a 4.5-star rating after its Saturday soft opening.
The star of the menu appears to be the xiao long bao, made fresh and steamed to order. Multiple Yelp reviewers praised the shrimp and pork version in particular, noting that the restaurant doesn’t over-process the filling—diners can actually see pieces of shrimp inside. The soup dumplings arrive bursting with savory broth and bold flavor, a standout item that had early visitors planning return trips, reviewers said.
Beyond the dumplings, the dim sum menu offers variety that’s new to Fresno’s dining scene, reviewers said. The popcorn chicken earned consistent praise for its tender dark meat and crispy texture. Other hits included garlic green beans cooked with pork, truffle Angus beef fried rice and pan-fried pork potstickers. As reviewer Mai Y. noted, “This is now officially one of our new favorite spots” for dumplings and Chinese cuisine.
The restaurant is also offering dessert dumplings, including a chocolate xiao long bao filled with Nutella-like chocolate and strawberry, typically served with a cream dipping sauce.
