LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A man was arrested last week after he was caught stealing copper wire from a Department of Water and Power facility, authorities said.
The incident happened last Wednesday near the Los Angeles International Airport.
According to Los Angeles Airport Police, officers saw two pickup trucks stopped in a roadway with the hazard lights on.
“Officers then saw two individuals actively stealing copper wire from a DWP facility,” read a post shared on social media.
When officers attempted to stop both trucks, one driver sped away.
Police say the driver of the second truck was found with burglary tools and approximately $8,000 worth of copper wire. That individual was arrested.
The Department of Water and Power reported that a total of $16,000 worth of copper wire had been stolen.
