Fresno police are investigating a homicide after a man was fatally shot during a large disturbance Sunday afternoon in central Fresno, the department said in a statement.
Officers from the Central Policing District responded at 2:43 p.m. to the intersection of Angus Street and Yale Avenue after receiving reports of a large disturbance involving multiple people. While officers were en route, additional 911 calls reported that someone had been shot, police said.
When officers arrived, they found Juan Alvarez, 26, on the ground and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Officers and emergency medical personnel provided first aid before Alvarez was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. He died Monday, police said.
Detectives determined that a large disturbance involving several people was occurring near the intersection at the time Alvarez was shot.

Investigators are tracking down video footage and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify anyone who may have information, police said.
