FRESNO, Calif (FOX26) — FOX26 and the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of community leaders, leaders like Angelita Echeveste.
Angelita is the director of a neighborhood resource center, who grew up working in the fields with her parents.
“My mom’s from Michoacan, Mexico, my dad’s from Guanajuato,” said Angelita.
She says she is dedicated to helping her community. “I am working here because I get to help people like me,” she said.
The center offers mental health programming, therapy for children, family services, home visiting services, and parenting classes.
“They come in at the most difficult time in their life,” she explained, noting the center’s role in providing hope to those facing challenges like losing their home or lacking access to essentials.
Reflecting on her father’s advice, she said, “When you’re on top or as you’re going, if you don’t turn around to extend your hand to someone else, there’s no value in that.”
She also expressed gratitude for her work, saying, “I get to do what I love every day, and I get to be paid for it. Who gets that?!?”
