Las Vegas (KSNV) — Las Vegans headed to Los Angeles on Sunday to join ongoing protests to overthrow the Islamic Republic in Iran.

This comes a day after religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei acknowledged Saturday that thousands of Iranians were killed during more than two weeks of unrest in the country.

Khamanei blamed the deaths of protesters on President Donald Trump, who he said “openly encouraged” the protesters by promising them US “military support.”

Police say more than 55,000 ralliers gathered at Los Angeles’ City Hall, including those from Las Vegas.

Chants were demanding the end of the Islamic Republic’s rule in Iran.

“Iranians want simple things: human rights, freedom from oppression, freedom from tyranny, freedom from the Islamic Republic regime that has been honestly killing the people for 50 years. We’ve seen 20,000 plus deaths over the last 48 hours,” said comedian Tehran.

As protests continue in Iran, so does an Internet blackout by the government, making it difficult to understand the full extent of the killings.

“Whoever I talk to in Iran lost at least four or five people that they know around them. It’s crazy. There was no internet, no phone lines,” said Iranian singer and Las Vegas resident Kamyar.

Kamyar spoke during the rally, which later led to a march around downtown Los Angeles.

“What is going on right now in Iran is truly a genocide, and I would like to know that what’s going on wasn’t just a normal protest. It’s a revolution that’s a huge difference,” said Kamyar.

He, like many of the protestors, is asking for help from lawmakers and President Donald Trump.

“Just support Iranian people, sanction Iranian regime, and as our President Trump promised to kill the innocent people, he is going to take the action, and we are hoping that he is going to keep his promise,” said Las Vegan Kamran Zamani.

And another chant prevalent during the rally was in support for the exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.

“They were chanting the name of the Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, that he is the leader of passage to the new government in Iran,” said Zamani.
