Northern California forecast: Dense fog continues

Dense fog continues across the Central Valley keeping temperatures below normal, while sunshine and mild temperatures are forecast to the Foothills.

SEVEN FOUR. 48 IS YOUR TIME. LET’S TALK WEATHER. YOU CAN SEE OF COURSE, THAT FOGGY SHOT THERE AT THE GOLDEN ONE CENTER. AND THAT REALLY IS THE STORY. ONCE AGAIN, IT IS RIGHT ACROSS THE ENTIRE CENTRAL VALLEY AND EXTENDING OUT INTO THE DELTA, MUCH LIKE WE’VE BEEN SEEING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MORNINGS. YOU JUST HAVE TO KIND OF GIVE YOURSELF THAT EXTRA TIME AND THAT BUFFER OF TIME TO GET THROUGH, BECAUSE THE MORNING COMMUTE WILL BE IMPACTED. AND WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT JUST FOR THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT REALLY ALL THE WAY UNTIL SOME OF THIS FOG STARTS TO LIFT OR ELEVATE A BIT BETTER, ESPECIALLY BEGINNING BEYOND ABOUT ABOUT MIDMORNING, THE TIME FRAME. HERE’S A LIVE LOOK OUTSIDE FROM RANCHO CORDOVA, WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE HAZY CONDITIONS. NOT ONLY DO YOU HAVE THE FOG, BUT ALSO THOSE PARTICULATES, THE POLLUTANTS CONTAMINATED, THE LOOK TO THE SKY AS WELL. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE LOW 40S RIGHT NOW, 17 UP AT THE TOP, AND WE’VE GOT SOME FREEZING FOG AROUND TRUCKEE CURRENTLY AT A QUARTER MILE. VISIBILITY. NOT BAD AT ALL. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE IF YOU’RE TRAVELING IN AND OUT OF THE FOOTHILLS AGAIN, YOU CAN JUST SEE SOME HIGH CLOUDS SCATTERED ABOUT FOR THE MORNING. AND THEN THE LOW CLOUD DECK GETS WITH US PRODUCING THAT QUARTER OF A MILE VISIBILITY. SO DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS ONCE AGAIN POSTED FOR THE VALLEY AND THE DELTA. THIS WILL HOLD UNTIL NOON, MUCH LIKE IT DID YESTERDAY. QUARTER MILE VISIBILITY OR LESS. JUST BE PREPARED, ESPECIALLY AS WE GET CLOSER TO DAYBREAK, WHICH IS IN THAT 7:00 HOUR. SOMETIMES THAT VISIBILITY CAN SUDDENLY DROP OFF ON YOU ABRUPTLY FOR THE MORNING DRIVE. SO CONTINUE TO SEE THOSE LOW BEAMS. THAT’S WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO USE AND TAKE THOSE PRECAUTIONS FOR THE MORNING. A FEW HIGH CLOUDS SPINNING OUR DIRECTION, BUT NO RAIN. NO SNOW IN OUR NEAR FUTURE. SO WE’VE HAD JANUARY RAINFALL 15 DAYS AGO. THAT’S THE LAST TIME WE HAD MEASURABLE RAINFALL IN THE BUCKET. TAKES US ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE FIFTH OF THE MONTH, WHERE WE HAD JUST NEARLY A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN. NOW, NORMALLY FOR THE MONTH AS A WHOLE IN JANUARY FOR SACRAMENTO, WE TYPICALLY WILL LOG 3.66IN. AND SO FAR IN OUR RAIN BUCKET, WE’VE HAD 2.30. SO WE’RE NOT DOING TERRIBLY. WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SOME GAINS AND GET SOME STORMS ROLLING INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THIS SYSTEM THAT’S OFF THE COAST THAT I SHOWED YOU ON THAT BIGGER PICTURE SATELLITE LOOP THAT’S GOING TO STAY OVER THE AREA JUST TO THE WEST OF US, AND THEN MOVE SOUTH AS WE GET INTO THURSDAY, BRINGING SOME SHOWER ACTIVITY POSSIBLE TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. ANOTHER ARCHING RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN JUST IN TIME FOR THE WEEKEND. AND UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS GOING TO KEEP THIS PATTERN IN PLACE. SO IN THE FOOTHILLS IN THE SIERRA, I DON’T HAVE ANY RAIN OR SNOW IN THE FUTURE FOR YOU IN THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. SAME STORY HERE IN THE VALLEY. JUST THOSE CLOUDS AND SOME PEEKS
