COLFAX, Calif. —

The Northern Lights returned to Northern California late Monday and early Tuesday, and our viewers captured photos of the light show.

The aurora was spawned from a coronal mass ejection, known as a CME, which created a severe geomagnetic storm in Earth’s magnetic fields at times.

The fog that blanketed the Valley made it hard to see the lights, though one viewer in Yolo County managed to spot an aurora. Other photos shared by viewers came from higher elevations.

In Placerville, aurora watchers were able to capture images with their phones.
