In the summer of 2026, SMF expects to open its new pedestrian walkway connecting Terminal B to Concourse B. This elevated, ADA-accessible walkway will include moving sidewalks, escalators and elevators.
A new parking garage is also expected to open later this year, west of Terminal B. The garage will provide 5,500 more parking spaces, hoping to ease congestion and make parking more convenient for passengers and visitors.
Beginning this year, SMF is working to improve baggage handling. Across both terminals, phases of this effort are expected to keep airport systems running safely and efficiently.
SMF is beginning its construction on a major expansion at Concourse B, adding new gates and additional space to support future air service growth. While construction starts in 2026, the airport said this is a multi-year project designed to meet long-term demand.
Expected to open next year in 2027, SMF is working on a new Terminal A exit road to improve traffic flow around the terminal.
SMF said this initiative will continue addition projects throughout the airport to enhance safety, operations and the overall passenger experience.
