A video circulating online Monday caused widespread concern and social media panic because it showed what appeared to be Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity on Willow and Shepherd avenues in Clovis.
The Clovis Police Department said that it was aware of ICE activity in the city Monday morning and confirmed it had been notified in advance.
At 6:41 a.m. Monday, ICE informed Clovis police that agents would be operating in the area and that no assistance was needed, the department told GV Wire.
Police said no Clovis Police Department personnel assisted or were asked to assist in ICE’s activity.
Officials also said no details were provided about the nature of the operation or whether an arrest was made
The department noted that it is common and expected practice for federal agencies to notify local law enforcement when operating within their jurisdiction.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has not responded to a GV Wire request for comment.
