KOKEE, Hawaii (Island News) — A California woman was rescued from the Nualolo Trail in Kokee State Park on Tuesday after she injured her ankle.

The Kauai Fire Department received a report about an injured hiker at Nualolo Trail shortly before 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. First responders were dispatched to rescue a 58-year-old woman visiting from California who suffered an ankle injury.

A fire department helicopter was flown out to the trail where they found the hiker three miles deep in the trail. Firefighters administered first aid to her ankle and then prepared her for transport.

The hiker was taken to the NASA landing zone where her care was taken over by Waimea Fire Station and American Medical Response personnel. An ambulance took her to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 2:05 p.m. following the rescue.
