SAN FRANCISCO — A more-than-a-century-old San Francisco restaurant with a connection to Gov. Gavin Newsom is littered with mouse droppings, according to the New York Post.
The Balboa Cafe was cited Jan. 13 by the city health department after the droppings were found among food containers, in a storage shed, in a storage room and on the bar floor, the newspaper reported, adding the restaurant had dirty floors and kitchen staff were wiping their hands on a dry rag, with the hand-wash sink blocked.
Newsom’s PlumpJack Group bought the restaurant in 1994, according to SFGate, which reported in 2024 that the governor had placed his ownership stake in a blind trust in 2018.
Neither PlumpJack Group nor Newsom’s office responded to a request for comment from the Post, the newspaper reported.
