Districts have already announced school closures for Friday as dangerously cold conditions descends upon Metro Detroit.

In Oakland County, some of the first districts to cancel Friday classes includes Southfield Public Schools, Rochester Community School, Bloomfield Hills Schools, Birmingham Public Schools, Ferndale Schools, and the Farmington Public Schools.

Other districts to close include South Lyon Community Schools, Madison District Public Schools, and the Holly Area School District.

The bulk of the closures came around the 3 p.m. hour, as forecasters have issued a Cold Weather Advisory from 1 a.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday, as overnight lows could reach to -4 to -8 degrees with wind chills at 15 to 25 degrees below zero.

The closures of public districts also impacts Catholic schools, as Marian and Brother Rice high schools as well as Holy Family Regional School in Rochester Hills and Holy Name in Birmingham are closed as well.

Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac as well as Rochester Hills Christian and Shrine schoolsare closed, along with the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency and Headstart locations.

The high on Friday could only reach 1 degree.

In neighboring Macomb County, Lake Shore Public Schools was the only district to close as of 3:30 p.m.

While Oakland University cancelled classes on Tuesday due to the weather, it had not made an announcement as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday for the following days classes.

In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Michigan Technological University announced its Friday closure of classes and campus in the late morning. The high in Houghton on Thursday was 3 degrees with it already -3 degrees by 3:45 p.m. and an overnight low of -12. The high on Friday there will be -3 degrees and wind chills could be -35 to -40 degrees, which can cause frost bite in 10 minutes, accuweather.com reported.
