BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Four people are hospitalized after a rollover crash on Shadow Hills Drive near Alfred Harrel Highway Sunday night.
The California Highway Patrol said on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at around 7:55 p.m., officers were called to Shadow Hills Drive, in the area of Alfred Harrel Highway, east of Fairfax Road, for a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle rollover.
CHP said a preliminary investigation found that a 17-year-old Bakersfield boy was driving a 2020 white Toyota Camry eastbound on Alfred Harrel Highway, east of Fairfax Road, within the number two lane, at an excess speed of 80 miles per hour.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota lost control and allowed the vehicle to veer to the left into the westbound lane of Alfred Harrel Highway and onto the north roadway edge shoulder, subsequently rolling down a steep embankment.
According to CHP, the Toyota came to rest on its wheels along the dirt shoulder of Shadow Hills Drive. The Toyota’s driver and three passengers were taken to Kern Medical.
CHP said the occupants of the Toyota sustained moderate to major injuries, with one passenger being placed in critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota cooperated with the investigation.
According to CHP, alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factor in the crash.
