LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State sophomore Thea Jagare has been named the Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The honor marks the first weekly award of the 2026 spring season and recognizes Jagare’s standout performance at the Beach Tennis Winter Invite, held January 16-18.
Jagare was a perfect 3-0 in singles play over the weekend, delivering a combination of resilience, consistency, and dominance that anchored the Beach lineup. She opened the tournament with a hard-fought comeback victory over Seha Yu (CSF), rebounding after dropping the first set to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win. The victory showcased Jagare’s poise under pressure and set the tone for the remainder of her weekend.
She followed with two emphatic straight-set wins, including a commanding 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Emma Moratella Sanz (CSUN) and a composed 6-4, 6-4 victory over Louise Wikander (DU). Across her three singles matches, Jagare dropped just one set, demonstrating both efficiency and control against a variety of playing styles.
In addition to her singles success, Jagare made valuable contributions in doubles alongside teammate Cecilia Costa. The pair posted a 2-1 record, earning decisive 6-3 wins over doubles teams from CSUN and DU, while narrowly falling in a tightly contested tiebreak match against a strong CSF pairing. Their performance added to Long Beach State’s overall success during the event.
