Homicide detectives identified Maliek Dontell James-Morrow, 29, and Buon Henry Um, 29, both Long Beach residents, as suspects in the killing of David Alfaro on Sunday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

James-Morrow was arrested on Tuesday after Special Investigations Division detectives located him in the 1600 block of East Anaheim Street, about a quarter-mile west of Cherry Avenue, in Long Beach. Um was taken into custody the following day after being found in the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, near Cherry Avenue, police said.

Police said investigators determined the shooting stemmed from a dispute.

The case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers responded at about 1:50 a.m. Sunday to the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, one block east of Santa Fe Avenue, after hearing multiple gunshots in the area while on patrol.

According to police, the officers scanned the location and noticed that a white pickup truck had struck a light pole and an unoccupied parked vehicle.

The vehicle was approached by the officers, who discovered Alfaro had sustained a gunshot wound.

He was immediately administered medical aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics.

Alfaro was taken to a hospital, where he later died .
