MIDLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – A California woman has been arrested for allegedly scamming two elderly people in Midland County out of more than $100,000.
Police say 44-year-old Yahui Zhu from California was arraigned on one count of false pretenses of $20,000 or more.
Michigan State Police began to investigate just after Christmas.
Police say an 82-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman lost more than $100,000 due to gift cards, cryptocurrency and other scams.
Police say they were able to catch Zhu as she tried an in-person cash exchange.
Zhu was arrested on Jan. 16, before being arraigned a few days later.
She was given a $500,000 cash/surety bond. She is scheduled to be in court again on Feb. 3.
