FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The church donation basket has gone digital in some central valley houses of worship.

The Diocese of Fresno has rolled out, what they calling a “digital philanthropy” in two of their parishes.

Instead of the traditional cash basket, they’re now adorned with technology called “Tip-Tap Pay.”

Each puck has a preset denomination. Some are set as low as $5, with others as high as $40. The preset amounts are designed to keep baskets moving quickly during services.

Now, one quick tap of your card is all it takes to give back to God.

“Holy Spirit here in Fresno, since they’ve implemented these machines, their collections have gone up 18% and Good Shepherd in Visalia, has gone up 15% and we expect that to increase as people get more familiar with the machines and having them around,” said Chandler Marquez with the Diocese of Fresno.

The Diocese began beta-testing the “Tip-Tap Pay” last summer. It was an effort to get younger generations, who don’t often carry cash, involved in the donation process.

They hope to roll out the program at all Central Valley parishes by this summer.
