Three people were arrested in connection with alleged unrelated attacks on U.S. postal carriers in a week.
The Fresno Police Department said that at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to North Marks and West Dakota avenues after a reported assault on a mail carrier. Police said the worker was attacked while delivering mail to a community mailbox unit.
The victim was struck three times in the head and face and was placed in a chokehold, causing difficulty breathing, police said.
The suspects demanded money, police said. The two juveniles were arrested Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, at 12:44 p.m., officers responded to East Cornell and North Maroa avenues after a worker said a man brandished a knife and used pepper spray on an aggressive dog while delivering mail, police said.
The man was identified as Brett Timothy Thomas.
Police said the victim did not want to press charges, but detectives issued a Ramey warrant for Thomas, who was arrested Thursday morning.
Last week, a mail carrier was assaulted in the area of West Hammond and North Fruit avenues. The Postal Inspector’s Office is investigating.
