1. New studio opening highlights hope after historic production slump
Production in Los Angeles fell more than 16% in 2025 compared with the previous year, with nearly 20,000 shoot days, the lowest total since 2020. Late in the year, shoot days ticked up modestly, offering early signs of potential recovery.
California expanded its Film & TV Tax Credit Program and has awarded incentives to more than 100 projects, many expected to start production in 2026.
The opening of East End Studios in downtown LA is seen by insiders as a positive signal for industry vitality.
2. Investigation continues into firefighter accused of killing wife in NoHo Home
Police were continuing their investigation Thursday of an off-duty Glendale firefighter who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of his wife, who was found bludgeoned inside their North Hollywood home.
Investigators took 45-year-old Andrew Jimenez into custody at about 4:25 a.m. Wednesday after determining a woman was dead inside their residence in the 5600 block of Satsuma Avenue, near Burbank Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Detectives identified the victim as 55-year-old Mayra Jimenez. She was a third-grade teacher at Wilshire Park Elementary School in Koreatown, family members told local media.
3. The Seahawks and Rams meet for the third time, this time with a spot in the Super Bowl on the line
The Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks are set to meet for the third time this season on Sunday in the NFC championship game.
The Rams and Seahawks also squared off on Dec. 18 a game which Seattle won 38-37 in overtime.
Now, Los Angeles has a chance to redeem itself in the Emerald City. The winner advances to Super Bowl 60 on Feb 8.

Newsom slams Trump during appearance at World Economic Forum
The fact that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is considering a 2028 White House bid is perhaps the worst kept secret in politics.
But if you consider his past year of policy challenges to the Trump administration and his taunting social posts a soft launch of those ambitions, his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week was an opening salvo on the world stage.
Newsom, who spoke at WEF Thursday morning with Semafor’s Ben Smith, delivered a blistering critique of President Trump during his 30 minutes appearance.
