LONG BEACH, CA — Two men have been arrested after the sound of gunfire led officers to a man fatally shot inside a pickup truck in Long Beach on Sunday, police announced Thursday.
Through an investigation, detectives identified Maliek Dontell James-Morrow, 29, of Long Beach, and Buon Henry Um, 29, of Long Beach, as suspects in the death of David Alfaro, the Long Beach Police Department said.
The men were each booked into jail on a count of murder and are each being held on $2 million bail, police said.
Officers patrolling the area heard multiple gunshots just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
When officers arrived at the 1600 block of Gaviota Avenue, they searched the area and noticed a white pickup truck crashed into a light pole, according to police.
Officers looked inside the pickup truck and saw a man, later identified as 33-year-old Alfaro, with a gunshot wound, police said.
Rescuers with the Long Beach Fire Department took Alfaro to a hospital, where he later died, police said.
Initial investigation shows Alfaro was inside the pickup truck when he was shot, police said.
The men are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5, jail records show.
