Officers said that three suspects, Avieon Spencer, 25, Antwon Pace, 35, and a 14-year-old juvenile, had been driving erratically through a parking lot before crashing their vehicle, causing it to overturn onto its side. After the crash, Pace was injured while Spencer and the juvenile exited the vehicle.

According to SCSO, the suspects became upset after noticing bystanders recording the incident. Video footage shows a male who seemingly assaulted another male victim and robbed him of his phone. The identity of the assailant is unclear. A female victim was also assaulted, but the perpetrator was unsuccessful in taking her phone.

When officers attempted to detain Spencer, officers said a fight broke out. During that confrontation, the juvenile retrieved a firearm and began shooting, which was caught on video.

One victim was struck by gunfire but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A responding Sacramento Metro Fire engine was also struck. SCSO said fire personnel were forced to flee on foot, but were not injured. Spencer and the juvenile reportedly fled the scene in different directions.

The juvenile was caught quickly, according to SCSO. He was booked into Sacramento County Juvenile Hall for alleged assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a firefighter with a firearm.

Sheriff’s K9 units tracked Spencer from the scene and found him hiding in a nearby residential neighborhood, where he was arrested. After a medical evaluation, deputies said he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for alleged robbery and delaying a public officer. His bail is set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 26.

The third suspect, Pace, was taken to a hospital for critical injuries related to the crash. SCSO said he will be arrested for outstanding warrants after he is medically cleared.
