A man in his 60’s was killed in a crash near Petaluma Friday morning, shutting down a stretch of roadway for hours, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 5:50 a.m. on Adobe Road between Frates and Stage Gulch roads, also known as state Highway 116, according to CHP Officer David deRutte.

Investigators believe that an eastbound gray Honda CR-V on Adobe Road crossed over the double lines for unknown reasons. It sideswiped a westbound white Chevrolet Silverado and then collided head-on with a black Toyota Camry, which was also traveling west.

The driver of the Honda CR-V sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, deRutte said. His identity was not yet released by authorities.

The driver of the Camry sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Silverado sustained minor injuries.

Lanes were closed on Adobe Road and traffic was blocked in both directions. By 10:16 a.m., all lanes were reopened, according to a CHP post on X.

CHP urged anyone with information about the collision to contact the Santa Rosa CHP office at (707) 806-5600.
