The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County remained the same Saturday at $4.353, two days after dropping to its lowest amount since July 15, 2021 thanks to three consecutive decreases totaling 1.3 cents.

The average price is three-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, but 10.1 cents less than one month ago and 13.8 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $2.141 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price rose for the third consecutive day after dropping to its lowest amount since June 22, 2021, increasing three-tenths of a cent to $4.239. It is nine-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, but 9.1 cents less than one month ago and 19.7 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $2.22 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Oil Price Information Service reports that Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices are moving up as part of the annual cycle of switching from producing winter-blend fuel to the more expensive summer-blend gasoline,” Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, said in a statement.

“This switch is required by California air quality regulations. Even though gas stations don’t have to start selling summer blend gasoline until April 1, refineries must adjust ahead of time to begin producing the summer blend.”

The national average price remained the same at $2.862. It is 3.2 cents more than one week ago and eight-tenths of a cent more than one month ago, but 27.1 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $2.154 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
