A man who suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a pickup while crossing Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office Monday.
Eduardo Jones, 69, died around 6:25 a.m. Friday in the area of Hayes Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. His place of residence was not disclosed.
Responding officers administered life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived, but despite continued efforts, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined Jones was crossing Pacific Coast Highway when he was struck by an eastbound 2023 Ford F-150 driven by a 40-year-old Wilmington man, who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
Detectives said it was not immediately clear whether speed, distraction or impairment played a role in the collision.
Anyone with information about the collision was urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7355. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
