One cyclist was killed and two others were injured after a driver struck them, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. 

The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Monday near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Newland Street. 

When officers arrived, one of the cyclists was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to local hospitals with severe injuries. 

According to police, a 2006 gold Mercedes E Class struck the cyclists as they rode in the bike lane. 

The driver was identified as a 43-year-old Amber Calderon of Long Beach. She was arrested about half a mile from the scene after she ultimately stopped and was arrested for felony hit and run,  gross vehicular manslaughter, and possession of narcotics, police said.

“The cause of the collision and whether impairment or any other factors played a role
remain under investigation,” the department said.
