More than 70 flights into and out of San Diego International Airport were canceled or delayed over the weekend due to a major winter storm gripping a vast stretch of the United States.
As of mid-day Sunday, 79 flights had been cancelled and 47 flights were delayed, according to Flight Aware and the SAN website. That adds to the 72 flights that experienced cancellations and delays Saturday.
“My son in Cincinnati, his flight was canceled from Cincinatti to Minneapolis,” said Leann Ancier to NBC 7, who was waiting for at Terminal 2 for arrivals after landing at SAN. “It’s just aggravating,” Ancier added.
“Delayed for three hours so far,” said Vanessa Garcia, another traveler. “It started at 3 o’clock. It said your flight got delayed two hours and then I got another message 30 minutes later, delayed another 30 minutes,” Garcia added.
Most of the canceled flights were to or from Dallas, Austin, Nashville or the East Coast, with some West Coast flights also affected.
The impact on San Diego departures and arrivals comes amidst thousands of other flights that have been canceled or delayed nationwide, as a mix of snow, ice and sub-freezing temperatures were expected to bear down on more than 180 million people across the country.
