A World War II warehouse in San Pedro that once served the Port of Los Angeles and later was home to Brouwerij West for nine years will open this weekend under a new name — Warehouse 9 Bar — and new ownership that will offer a gathering place with food, beer, nonalcoholic drinks, live music, karaoke nights and a family- and dog-friendly environment.

The 26,000 square-foot “coastal meets industrial”-dubbed space at 110 E. 22nd St. will have its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1. Admission is free for all ages with free parking. But pre-saved tickets are recommended due to the capacity of the venue, available on Ticketweb.

Highlights include craft beer and some non-alcoholic beers on tap along with a can-pour menu that includes cider, hard seltzer, and hard kombucha. Food offerings will include Miller Butler (wood-fired pizza) and Shady Grove Foods (BBQ).

Dogs are welcome but must be on-leash and well-behaved.

Regular hours will be noon to 10 p.m. Sundays; closed Mondays and Tuesdays; 4-7 p.m. Wednesdays; 4-11 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays.

The new business also will coordinate some events and promotions with the artist-hub Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, located in the warehouse next door. Warehouse 9, meanwhile, has rehired some of the staff from Brouwerij West.

Crafted (located in Warehouse 10) will also be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday featuring some 90 artisan and craft booths.

Warehouse 9 Bar plans to offer viewing for large sports events, including the Feb. 8 Super Bowl game and possibly also some of the 2026 World Cup contests and 2028 Olympics competitions in Los Angeles.

Among the challenges that led to the shuttering of Brouwerij West — which opened in 2016 and enjoyed long lines and packed crowds — was a downturn in the over-populated craft beer market that had a surge throughout the Southern California area in previous years. While Brouwerij West kept a loyal following and was wildly popular for many years, it proved a struggle as the market became over-saturated and operation costs rose.

Instead of producing craft beers, the new Warehouse 9 operation will serve rotating taps of various well-known and popular beers and seltzers and non-alcoholic options, with a potential for wine in the future.
