Downtown Fresno seeing resurgence of local restaurants

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Business is booming for local mom-and-pop businesses in Downtown Fresno.

Dads Cookies shared that they are preparing to open a spot at The Garage on Fulton Street.

And Moses McQueen’s is renovating a 100-year-old home into a restaurant and bar. They plan to open in early march off of Van Ness and Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

Downtown overall has seen an influx in more local restaurants opening.

Councilmember Miguel Arias says there’s a few reasons behind it.

“Across this country we’re seeing the consumers more interested in shopping local with mom and pop shops instead of national food chains,” Arias said. “We’re seeing a lot more pedestrian traffic in Downtown Fresno then we’ve had in the last 25 years”.

More businesses are scheduled to open in Downtown Fresno, including a Marriott hotel in about three months.

And Zaatar Euro Bistro plans to open a weekday lunch location in the Galleria at Civic Center Square.
