3 arrested for wildlife parts trafficking following state-wide investigation

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Three people were arrested and booked into the Fresno County jail this month as part of a state-wide investigation into the trafficking of wildlife parts.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it intercepted a falsely labeled shipment from Thailand destined for Fresno.

Inside the package, they found elephant tusks, rhinoceros horns and other animal parts from protected species.

State wildlife experts also uncovered several other major wildlife poaching operations.

Search warrants in Fresno County this month resulted in the seizure of hundreds more illegal animal parts, including walrus tusks, suspected bear gall bladders and turtle shells.

In Madera County, state authorities shut down an illegal rooster-fighting ring.

Charges will be filed with the Fresno and Madera county district attorneys’ offices.
