PLANNED SERVICE CANCELLATIONS STARTING TODAY, FIVE REGULARLY SCHEDULED TRAINS THAT DO MAKE THEIR WAY THROUGH SACRAMENTO VALLEY STATION HERE NEAR THE RAIL YARDS. THEY ARE CANCELED AND IT’S A REDUCTION IN SERVICE, CAPITOL CORRIDOR SAYS WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR ABOUT A MONTH. IN A SPECIAL MESSAGE SENT TO RIDERS AT THE END OF LAST WEEK, CAPITOL CORRIDORS MANAGING DIRECTOR EXPLAINED THE REASONS BEHIND THE TEMPORARY CHANGE IN SERVICE. BASICALLY, IT COMES DOWN TO AN ISSUE WITH STANDBY LOCOMOTIVE AVAILABILITY. THE SERVICE SHARES A FLEET OF BACKUP LOCOMOTIVES WITH ANOTHER REGIONAL RAIL SYSTEM AND UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, CAPITOL CORRIDOR RELIES ON THOSE STANDBY LOCOMOTIVES TO FILL IN WHEN MECHANICAL ISSUES HAPPEN. BUT IN RECENT WEEKS, THOSE STANDBY LOCOMOTIVES HAVEN’T BEEN AVAILABLE, LEADING TO CHALLENGES WHEN MECHANICAL PROBLEMS DO COME UP. AND IN TURN, THAT HAS LED TO AN INCREASE IN CANCELLATIONS. SO CAPITOL CORRIDOR SAYS IT’S CANCELING SOME TRAINS IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE RELIABILITY, ALLOWING THE LINE TO FOCUS AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT ON THE REMAINING SERVICES. SO TAKE A LOOK DURING THE REDUCTION IN SERVICE PERIOD, THE FOLLOWING TRAINS WILL NOT OPERATE. THEY ARE TRAINS FIVE, 25, 26, FIVE, 34, 531 AND 537. CAPITOL CORRIDOR INTER-CITY PASSENGER TRAIN SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF 18 STATIONS IN EIGHT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COUNTIES, RUNNING ALONG A 170 MILE CORRIDOR, AND THIS CANCELLATION OF SERVICE OF FIVE OF THE TRAINS IS ONLY TEMPORARY. ACCORDING TO CAPITOL CORRIDOR, THINGS SHOULD BE BACK UP AND RUNNING AS NORMAL AFTER FEBRUARY 27TH.
