One man was killed and two others hospitalized after the driver of a Mercedes-Benz struck them as they rode their bicycles in Huntington Beach Monday morning, Oct. 20, authorities said.

The driver, Amber Calderon, 43, of Long Beach, was arrested about a half-mile away after she stopped her car on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and possession of narcotics, said Corbin Carson, a Huntington Beach police spokesman.

Police were called to Pacific Coast Highway, between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street, just past 6:45 a.m. Officers found the Mercedes-Benz and the three bicyclists, Carson said.

The bicyclists were riding in the bike lane when they were struck, Carson said.

It was unclear what led up to the crash.

The one bicyclist died at the scene. The other two were hospitalized with severe injuries.

Police were investigating whether speed, distracted driving, drugs or alcohol may have factored into the crash.
