An Arizona man is behind bars after he allegedly met people to buy luxury bags he found online, then fled with the bags without paying.
The Irvine Police Department said on social media that detectives connected two similar thefts, one that occurred at Woodbury Town Center earlier this month and another at Carlson Avenue and Campus Drive Monday morning.
In the first incident, the man took a Louis Vuitton bag that was for sale on OfferUp, while Monday’s theft involved a Dior handbag that was listed on Facebook Marketplace, police said.

In both cases, a man took the bag and ran away.
On Monday, however, detectives surveilled a friend of the suspected thief and followed them to a Huntington Beach apartment, then saw a “vehicle quickly flee the area.”
The California Highway Patrol pulled that vehicle over on the 110 Freeway, and Tralin Nhjheym Newman, 22, was found lying in the back seat, police said.
“The Dior purse was found in the car and later returned to the victim,” police said. They did not elaborate on the status of the Louis Vuitton bag.
Newman was booked into the Orange County Jail and faces robbery charges. He did not appear in a search of jail records Monday night.
