With the goal of creating more housing, San Jose leaders Tuesday will consider ways to make office conversions more attractive to investors.

The conversion of the historic Bank of Italy tower, which has sat vacant in downtown San Jose for years, could create 109 units of housing. It would be less expensive than new construction, but it’s not exactly cheap.

With the aim of getting developers on board, the city wants to get more aggressive with their incentives, like waiving taxes for building and construction.
