Fresno soccer community urges city leaders to reverse ban on league play in local parks

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Soccer players, coaches, referees, and families gathered at Fresno City Hall on Monday, calling on city leaders to reconsider their decision not to allow certain teams to play in city parks.

The Hispanic Soccer League has about 129 teams operating for about 17 years now.

These teams have not been allowed to play soccer in the parks.

They say it’s because of two separate incidents that violated park rules but the speakers asked for a path forward to resume games in the parks.

Other speakers at last night’s meeting say the teams are currently playing at schools around the valley, but there just isn’t enough room for the number of players and teams.

The last time they were allowed to play in the parks was eight months ago.
